Black Emmy Nominees 'When They See Us', 'This Is Us' Lead the Way (video)

The Academy announced the 2019 Emmy Awards nominees Tuesday, and the list is very diverse.

Many of our favorite shows starring black actors were nominated for several awards.

The top nominees were Ava DuVernay's "When They See Us" and Beyonce's "Homecoming," scored 16 nominations each. ABC's "This Is Us" scored 9.

Black-ish, How To Get Away With Murder, and Orange Is The New Black also received nominations.

Mahershala Ali, Anthony Anderson, Niecy Nash, Don Cheadle, Sterling Brown, and Viola Davis all received nominations.

It was nice to see Jharrel Jerome nominated for his role as Korey Wise in "When They See Us," Cicely Tyson for her role in "How To Get Away With Murder," and Phylicia Rashad for her role in "This Is Us."

There were a total of 26 nominations for black people this year, down slightly from 2018.

The Emmys will air Sunday, September 22nd on Fox.
