Snoop Dogg has been honored with a nomination to the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.

In a press release sent out on Monday, November 14, the seasoned rapper and songwriter was nominated by the prestigious Hall of Fame ahead of the 2023 SHOF Induction & Awards Gala. Snoop is being recognized for introducing his unique lyrical style to the rap game, and coining his iconic "izzle" phrases in his music. The Death Row Records owner received the nomination for the Performing Songwriters category along with Sade, Gloria Estefan, Bryan Adams and more. Teddy Riley was also nominated as a Non-Performing Songwriter.

"Praised for his flavor-filled melodic rhyming and his use of vocabulary in keeping its effectiveness by “keeping it simple,” Broadus popularized the use of “izzle-speak,” particularly in the pop and hip-hop music industry," the SHOF said about Snoop. "He has sold 35 million albums worldwide and continues to have a tremendous influence on younger generations of rappers."

The SHOF acknowledged some of Snoop's best songs like "Drop It Like It’s Hot," "Nuthin’ But A “G” Thang," "Young, Wild & Free," "Gin & Juice" and "Next Episode." Snoop's latest honor comes not long after he announced the plans for his upcoming biopic. Last week, the rapper-actor revealed his intentions to produce the film alongside esteemed director Allen Hughes, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever co-writer Joe Robert Cole and Sara Ramaker, who operates Snoop's newly formed Death Row Pictures. The film will be the first movie to be released via Death Row Pictures in partnership with Columbia Pictures.

The 2023 SHOF Induction & Awards Gala is happening on June 15, 2023, in New York City. Congratulations to Snoop Dogg and all the other nominees!
