Cam Newton Signs One-Year Deal With The New England Patriots

The New England Patriots haveΒ finalized a one-year contractΒ with former Carolina Panthers quarterbackΒ Cam Newton. The incentive-laden deal could be worth up $7.5 million if Newton can stay healthy.

Newton'sΒ stock has dropped over the past few yearsΒ due to injuries and inconsistent play. He was cut by the Panthers in March after playing just two games with a foot injury in 2019. In 2018, he missed time with a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery.

Before signing Newton, the Patriots hadΒ two quarterbacks on their roster vying for the chance to replaceΒ Tom Brady, 2019 fourth-round draft pickΒ Jarrett StidhamΒ and journeymanΒ Brian Hoyer.

If Newton can stay healthy, he could easily find himself lining up under center for the Patriots when the season kicks off.
